FAQ
How is the price of my motorcycle insurance calculated?
There are several factors that will affect your motorcycle insurance premiums. Here are some of them:
- The model of your motorcycle: its power, its number of cylinders, its rarity;
- Mileage traveled;
- The use you make of your motorcycle, the frequency with which you use it;
- The area where you mainly travel (city, country, etc.);
- Your age and driving record;
- Where you park your motorcycle;
- Etc.
How much does motorcycle insurance for a young driver cost?
First, let’s define "young driver". This is a driver who has recently passed his or her SAAQ motorcycle test. This person therefore has a higher risk profile than an experienced driver. This implies that the person has taken their learner's permit for a minimum of 11 months. Then, he or she will have had a probationary license with the successful completion of the SAAQ’s theory and practical exam. The driver’s license is obtained after 2 years, and the person is then considered an apprentice driver.
As with an automobile, the price of motorcycle insurance for any young driver will be higher. As a rule of thumb, it costs between $100 and $150 more to insure your motorcycle. That said, there are ways to reduce your young driver motorcycle insurance premium. You can increase your deductible, or bundle your insurance, for example. Your broker will be happy to look at the different options available to you.
